I always look forward to Fun-Day Wednesdays with my son. We have a good time around the house daily, but Wednesday is the one day of the week dedicated to engaging in a special planned activity after school.

Whether it’s board games, an outdoor adventure, or arts and crafts, Wednesdays are reserved for Mom-Son fun. Today, we decided on an evening outing so that my husband could join us. Tonight, The Delgados headed off to the movies to see It: Chapter Two.

The horror film based on Stephen King’s book dropped in theaters on September 6th and earned a whopping $91 million during its opening weekend. The initial frenzied crowds have died down and fewer fans venture out on school nights, so it was a pretty empty (and quiet) theater. We were completely immersed in the experience.

Both my husband and I were pretty stoked to see It: Chapter Two, and my pre-teen’s excitement was off the charts. He couldn’t wait for the gore, jump-scares, and haunting images. As a horror fan, I am tickled that my child is drawn to the dark side of cinema.

It: Chapter Two delivered on the frights we were craving. Pennywise was deliciously creepy and the scares were legit. But on top of the supernatural horror elements, the film featured real-life terrors like [spoiler alert] hate crimes, domestic violence, and attempted sexual assault [end spoiler]. These threats were much more horrific than Pennywise could ever hope to be.

What I enjoyed most was the overall tone in which the film was written and directed. I found myself laughing out loud almost as frequently as I was squealing with fear. It: Chapter Two dispensed a combo of horror and comedy that kept me on a thrill ride of emotions.
